after the flood
Last week tens of thousands of gallons of water flooded my little studio. The waters rose to 5 feet and stayed there for over 24 hours. Because of the safety issues involved in accessing the building, I was unable to retrieve any of my items for about seven days by the time I got in most of my items were destroyed, either by the water, humidity, rust, or mold. I’ve lost 30 years worth of materials, tools, and my own personal art. I’ve hesitated sharing this with you all, because I am hurting and feeling very vulnerable. But so much of my collection was gifts from friends, mentors, and years worth of collecting. I didn’t get to this place alone, and I won’t be able to find a way through it alone either.
I’ve started this website as a way to showcase the work that I’ve created in the past five years. Thank you to everyone who has already contacted me to see how they can help! I’m not sure whether my insurance will cover any of this loss and I’m in need of a new studio space and some basic art materials and woodworking tools. Here is a gofundme to help get me started again. Love, Ellyn
